Spaceway pulls out all the stops to ensure universal engineering meets deadline.

When Universal Engineering, was suddenly gazumped on a new facility they were acquiring for its Line Scan Division and had to find alternative premises, it not only necessitated a speedy response from the company in order that it could meet its contractual obligations with the MoD, but also necessitated Spaceway South redesigning and fitting out a large industrial building in just six weeks Spaceway South completed the project in a third of the original time allocated thereby enabling the company to complete the MoD contracts on time

Universal Engineering's Line Scan Division provides a total document management solution a stand-alone service to many customers outside the engineering industry who require data or documents to be scanned and stored.

All types of documentation are handled from hand written notes and typewritten records to catalogues, working drawings and maps.

Film and digital archiving is undertaken including microfiche, aperture cards, microfilm and removable media such as CD or DVD.

An existing building, the 20,000 sq.foot premises located in Lynx Trading Estate, Yeovil, have now been fitted out to provide new administrative offices, meeting rooms, store and open plan offices equipped with tea points, toilets and dark rooms.

To make maximum use of the area, Spaceway has installed a mezzanine floor and equipped the building with demountable Komfort office partitioning, suspended ceilings, lighting, electrics, small power, data cabling and cable management systems.

The interior of the building has been extensively decorated and fitted with carpet tiles, vinyl floor coverings and equipped with Senator Jigsaw Plus workstations, seating and storage systems.

To complete the project Spaceway South fitted out the stores area with high bay racking and an order-picking machine.

"Spaceway South worked through the night to fit out the facility in the limited period available", said Chris Bell, Managing Director of South Dorset Engineering a division of Universal Engineering.

"Without their speedy response, we would not have completed the MoD contracts on time which would have put future contracts in jeopardy".

"Spaceway have done a fantastic job and we are delighted with the final result".

Spaceway South won the contract after an eight-month consultation period with Universal Engineering, which involved providing detailed space planning, design, product selection and budgeting.

Spaceway South provided a complete turnkey operation, which also included consultancy on Building Regulations, Planning, and Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requirements.

In addition Universal Engineering is also using Spaceway's Consumables Division (SAC) for the supply of warehouse, workshop and materials handling equipment.

Established in 1976, Spaceway is recognised as one of the UK's leading providers of integrated interior space solutions for private sector businesses and public organisations.

Located in Hampshire but serving customers across the South and Midlands, the company provides an integrated approach to space solutions that includes mezzanine floors, partitioning, suspended ceilings, storage systems, special structures as well as furniture and small parts storage.
