IT provider gets keyless access
Salto Systems has equipped the new Wexford regional office of Datapac with a smart proximity based access control system to create a 'totally keyless' building.
The installation was carried out by Waterford based One Card Solutions (OCS) a market leader in smart card technology for Irelands fast growing commercial and educational environments.
Datapac is the foremost name in computer services and supplies in Ireland.
Established in 1982, the company has been serving the IT needs of Irish organisations for more than 25 years.
In 2006, Datapac's turnover was in excess of 65 million and the company now employs over 220 people.
Kate Kelly of One Card Solutions comments: "Datapac wanted a 'one-stop' technology solution for their new building that did not incorporate mechanical keys with their associated control problems".
"They wanted a card based system that not only covered internal doors, but one that was also capable of securing their automatic front doors, lifts and car park barrier".
"Our solution was to fit 45 Mifare controlled locks from Salto's comfort range locks in a brushed steel finish".
"These are specifically designed for use with internal and external doors, and the locks are approved to withstand fire for 1 hour".
"Simple and quick to install, power is supplied via 3 AAA batteries good for up to 45,000 openings".
"Each lock can support up to 64,000 users, more than enough for Datapac's needs, and the locks also feature anti-vandal protection to safeguard their electronics, housed in the inner backplate, on the inside of the door".
"These are complemented by 13 online readers that provide 'hot spots' allowing for the control of the external front doors, lifts and car park barrier".
Kieran Gorey of local Salto business partner DoorWare says: "The smart proximity cards build up audit trails through normal use giving Datapac the ability to track access security throughout their building if required, and a complete profile can be established and updated as necessary from the on-line wall readers".
"Any cards that are lost or compromised can be quickly and simply deleted from the system just by visiting the wall readers with updated cards".
"User data is transferred on cards through normal staff usage, eliminating the need to replace locks if security is breached due to the loss or theft of a key.".
