The ceilings create a sophisticated, welcoming atmosphere for customers, so they feel as if they are within an interior space, while the incorporation of insulation ensured the U-Value required by Part L of the Building Regulations (2000) for the surface between a heated occupied commercial space and an external car park was met.
SAS International worked closely with ceiling sub-contractors on both projects to develop this bespoke insulated metal ceiling solution for Ikea.
The advanced design and technical capabilities of SAS International proved invaluable in this.
Using the SAS System 150 as a basis, the product was designed, manufactured and tested by SAS within the UK, so a viable and proven solution was delivered using the extensive market knowledge.
Every detail was thought of, down to the design of special clips to stop movement of the tiles in this semi-exterior environment, which is partially open to the elements.
This high level of service and quality of design, manufacture and detailing were key in the decision to choose SAS International as the supplier.
The decision to use a metal ceiling was made not only because of its aesthetic 'look', but also because metal ceilings offer an exceptional life span and minimal maintenance costs as they do not do not require re-decoration and are incredibly easy to clean.
The lifespan of a SAS metal ceiling is in excess of 25 years and its polyester power coating ensures fantastic durability as it is not susceptible to paint chipping, accidental damage, and has a high level of scratch resistance.
Designed by architects Ruddle Wilkinson, Ikea Edmonton was part of Ikea's 10 year expansion programme and was opened in February 2005.
Ikea Milton Keynes was designed by Stubbs Rich Architects and was opened in December 2005.
