The New City Academy designed to accommodate over 1,250 pupils included provision for new sports and arts facilities.
Principle contractors, HBG Construction, worked closely alongside Feilden Clegg Bradley to build the 10,000 sq metre complex, which replaced St George's Community College in Russell Town Avenue, Bristol.
The highly flexible SAS system was ideal for this school environment.
The clip-in modular SAS tiles slide along a concealed suspension system to provide total access to the ceiling void.
The clip-in feature facilitates easy access to large areas of the void for maintenance.
It also helps avoids damage such as scratching, and eliminates the need for storage during access.
The durable, washable polyester powder finish on the SAS tiles also offers a hygienic, wipe-clean solution, ideal for easy maintenance.
Furthermore, perforation patterns on the tiles help to achieve acoustic absorption, and the bevelled edge provides a clean, modern look.
The City Academy, Bristol project was described by the industry body Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) as among those which "strived to respond to the complexities and challenges of PFI procurement and the new Academy programme, presenting high quality designs which are attractive, sustainable, flexible and responsive to context".
The imaginative interior is both eye-catching and fit for purpose, and SAS International was delighted to be chosen to supply the project.
