Safeforce Champions Airbag Safety

The decision by Safeforce to offer airbag safety equipment to customers through its network of local branches coincides with the launch of a high profile campaign by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) - Height Safe - highlighting the dangers of working at heights.
According to figures published by the HSE, 68 people died in 2001/2002 and nearly 4,000 suffered a serious injury as a result of a fall from height in the workplace.
It further transpires that falls from height are the most common cause of fatal injury and the second most common cause of major injury to employees, accounting for 15% of all such injuries.
Experts in construction management are increasingly advocating the use of airbag systems on building sites as a fit for purpose complement to traditional equipment such as harnesses and fall arrest kits.
The airbag safety system has undergone exhaustive tests by the Building Research Establishment to evaluate and verify its reliability and resistance to weight.
When dropping an 85kg mass from 16 metres, for example, no apparent damage was sustained by the airbags.
Reducing risk and looking after the welfare of its employees is a primary concern of any responsible employer.
Airbags can make working at heights a safer place as they can help employers meet their obligations as defined in the tight legislation in place to regulate and control working at heights.
These regulations impose an absolute duty to prevent falls when working at a height of over two metres.
