Saint-Gobain Pipelines secured GBP100K contract to supply its Ensign soil system for 201 Bishopsgate, part of the biggest speculative development ever undertaken in the City of London.

With performance, reliability and sustainability all being key characteristics of cast iron, Saint-Gobain Pipelines has secured a GBP100K contract to supply its Ensign soil system for 201 Bishopsgate.

Together with Broadgate Tower, the 13-storey 201 Bishopsgate, designed by award-winning architects Skidmore Owings and Merrill, offers a total of 822,000sq ft of high specification commercial space.

Described by developers British Land as having a specification that is 'robust and appropriate to the needs of demanding occupational requirements' the project features high levels of sustainability with 20 per cent by value of the building using recycled materials.

Made from 100% recycled material, and capable of being recycled, the environmental credentials of cast iron are well established.

In the Ensign system, these are combined with fast installation times and high acoustic and fire retardancy performance, both key requirements for large high-rise commercial developments.

Developed to meet the European Standard BS EN 877, Ensign offers a complete drainage solution that offers fast installation times.

It also has the flexibility for future system configuration changes to be easily incorporated, which can be an important factor in speculative developments such as 201 Bishopsgate, where layout changes may be required to meet the changing needs of tenants.
