Pipeline full service technical offer

A Saint-Gobain Pipelines product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Oct 26, 2007

Saint-Gobain Pipelines strengthen customer relations with full service technical offer.

Saint-Gobain Pipelines (SGPL) continues to secure new projects as companies recognise the benefits to be gained from its full service technical offering.

Its position as the UK's leading pipeline manufacturer and supplier has been further strengthened by the company's deliverance of a comprehensive technical support package, to complement its supply and installation function.

From initial design stages through to installation, SGPL offer on-site technical support and advice throughout the project, including a soil survey to accurately specify the correct protective coating on the outer layer of the pipe.

In Jan 2007, SGPL supplied and installed the first 2000mm ductile iron pipeline in the UK for United Utilities Water Treatment Works in the North West.

The success of the project has secured further contracts with contractors KMI Plus at the Waterhead Water Treatment works.

John Lavelle, site manager, KMO Plus said: "We specified ductile iron for its suitability for this application".

"However, due to the size implications we required additional expertise and on-site advice when necessary".

"We were impressed with SGPL's full service offer, from initial design through to installation".

As framework holder for Anglian Water and its contracting partners, SGPL's remit is to supply and install 1km ductile iron pipeline to run from Horkesley to Cowdray Avenue.

The project will see the replacement of the existing smaller diameter steel pipeline, with ductile iron DN900 Natural Pipe responding to an increase in demand for drinking water in the Horkesley area.

SGPL conducted a soil resistivity survey as part of its remit.

Paul Thompson, Regional Sales Manager, SGPL comments: "The correct level of corrosion protection is vital to ensure optimum performance of the pipeline throughout its life".

"As part of our technical support package, we offered a soil resistivity survey to Anglian to accurately measure the aggressiveness of the soil conditions and enable us to identify and specify the right product.".
