Saint-Gobain drainage systems for Newcastle PFI

Saint-Gobain soil systems have been selected for the biggest healthcare project ever undertaken in the North East.

With cast-iron being the standard specification for pipework in NHS schemes, Saint-Gobain's Ensign soil system was chosen for its superior high-performance coatings.

A PFI involving Laing O'Rourke as the contractors and Equion, an investment and management company specialising in PFI and PPP projects, the Royal Victoria along with the Freeman Hospital forms one of the largest construction projects in the history of the Newcastle Upon Tyne National Health Trust.

The 60,000m facility will encompass a wide range of facilities, including a children's hospital, neuroscience centre, AandE, an operating theatre and critical care facility.

Specified throughout the project, the high-performance internal coating was a key factor in securing the supply for Saint-Gobain Pipelines.

A two-part epoxy coating offering performance exceeding BS EN 877, it has been developed to meet the increasing need for pipework to perform under extreme usage, including exposure to aggressive substances.

A full range of Saint-Gobain fittings has also been specified including HP couplings required to cope with high pressures in the rainwater stacks.

Ensign is Kitemark approved to BS EN 877 and is available in 50 to 300mm diameters.

It offers a range of socketless pipes and fittings connected by means of two-piece ductile iron couplings or alternatively by push-fit joints.
