Seedley and Langworthy Gets Urban Splash Touch
Award-winning property developer Urban Splash is set to bring its highly successful and innovative approach to Seedley and Langworthy.
Award-winning property developer Urban Splash is set to bring its highly successful and innovative approach to Seedley and Langworthy with radical proposals which were revealed at the area's Partnership Board.
The public announcement follows partnership working with Urban Splash to bring forward an exciting scheme that will boost confidence in the area.
Edna Robinson, Chair, Seedley and Langworthy Partnership said: "We were delighted with the approach from Urban Splash who are major developers with a fantastic reputation for innovation and design.
Theirs is a radical option, which will change the face of Seedley and Langworthy." The proposal is to refurbish the existing Victorian terrace houses to the south of Jubilee Street between Chimney Pot Park, Langworthy Road, Alder Street and Highfield Road, Langworthy, instead of replacing them with new buildings.
"We believe that Langworthy is an area with great potential," said Tom Bloxham MBE, chairman, Urban Splash.
"The Victorian houses are great! In other areas like Didsbury and London properties like this are highly sought after, they call them Mews! We are confident that our plans will create exciting, quality, affordable homes and help boost the regeneration of Seedley and Langworthy." Urban Splash plans to use the best of the existing buildings, but with architects Shed KM, use modern design to create a unique development.
A new open plan living space will be created upstairs with galley kitchens.
A fully glazed rear elevation will look out onto private, communal gardens, with back alleys and out buildings replaced by bright modern landscaped spaces.
Gerry Stone, Acting Chair, Seedley and Langworthy Initiative (SALI) said: "Although regeneration is an extremely difficult process for local people to go through this is a positive step forward for the area, and now we are beginning to see the regeneration of the area coming together." John Merry, Leader, Salford City Council said: "The vision for Seedley and Langworthy is moving forward, the Urban Splash proposal offers a real opportunity which will complement the rest of the plans we have for the area.
This is another example of the new Council vision for the city." Hazel Blears MP said: "This is an exciting and positive opportunity for Seedley and Langworthy.
Urban Splash's innovative scheme could help to revitalise the whole area." The Seedley and Langworthy Partnership board is working with English Partnerships to provide funding for the scheme, which is likely to be well on its way by 2005.
