Stannah Lift Services have been awarded the London Underground Accessibility Award for their lift modernisation work at Hove Station.

The award, in the form of a blue plaque to be displayed at the Station, was presented to Jon Stannah, Managing Director of Stannah Lift Services, by Rt.Hon.Gwyneth Dunwoody MP during a ceremony at the Merchant Taylor's Hall in London Nine category winners received awards for outstanding railway restoration and modernisation projects sympathetically executed

The Accessibility Category, sponsored by London Underground, had two short - listed projects, both from Stannah Lift Services at Chichester and Hove Stations for Network Rail.

Jon Stannah comments: "We are absolutely delighted to receive this award in recognition of the excellent work carried out at Hove Station, by our team at the Christchurch Branch team, led by Tim Collins".

"It is one of a number of station lift refurbishments we have carried out within an ongoing programme of modernisations right across the UK for our client, Network Rail".

The Hove Station project has improved accessibility at the Victorian station, ensuring all travellers, including disabled people, can move around all areas of the station.

The old goods and assisted-passenger traction lift was removed and replaced with a new hydraulic energy-saving lift with all the latest technological and safety features to Network Rail's specification.

This work included new drive equipment and a completely refurbished motor room.

Extensive improvements to the existing tunnel has provided access to both platforms and the new lift can now be used by staff and unassisted passengers.

Stannah took on the role of main contractor at Hove Station, managing all building works associated with the accessibility project.

In particular this involved alterations to the levels at the ticket office and now provides access for disabled people at this area and the station beyond.

Stannah is currently working on upgrading access at many Stations across the UK.

Each project is managed locally by one of Stannah's eleven branches nationwide. Request free introductory details about products from Stannah ...
