Stannah lift makeover for listed Care Hospice

A Stannah product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Feb 10, 2010

Stannah Lift Services has transformed the original passenger lift into a through-car stretcher lift, as part of the modernisation of Leckhampton Court Hospice.

The grade II listed former manor house is the Cheltenham arm of Sue Ryder Care.

A major development programme rendered the original two stop, single entry lift unable to provide the essential and discrete movement of deceased patients from the 16 bed unit on the first floor, to the Chapel of Rest below.

With grade II constraints ruling out the installation of a new lift, the Bristol branch of Stannah Lifts Services completely transformed the original one into a versatile, through-car stretcher lift.

The new lift enables the discreet transport of deceased patients: the ground floor car door to the reception area can be locked against general access whilst the opposite car door opens into the chapel area.

This alos helps Sue Ryder Care meet with the requirements of the DDA and BS5655.
