Technology Can Monitor CCTV Very Cost Effectively
Smart CCTV Ltd is introducing a behavioural recognition software product which monitors how people move within the cameras field of view and looks for unusual behaviour patterns.
The major problem for users of CCTV is that it's not effective at preventing crime.
The cost of employing staff to monitor the one million plus cameras that are already deployed in the UK would be astronomical.
The only solution today is to record the video and hope that the image quality is good enough to allow the identification of the culprit but, even if this is successful, the crime has been committed.
Smart CCTV Ltd is introducing a behavioural recognition software product which monitors how people move within the cameras field of view and looks for unusual behaviour patterns.
The software then delivers this video source to the Monitor's desk in the CCTV control room thereby allowing the members of staff to deal with actual and potential incidents rather than trying to watch 30 plus video screens all at the same time, most of which will be showing nothing of interest.
The system will interface with an existing CCTV environment, thereby protecting the value of the investment already made by offering a much more effective solution.
It is capable of working with up to 96 cameras at the same time at 3 to 5 video frames per second from each camera.
The introduction of Computer Vision into the Security world will offer a major change in the way both Criminals perceive the risk of being caught, thereby reducing the incentive to commit an offence, and by highlighting the possibility that something is about to happen give the Police and Security staff more time to react and therefore catch the perpetrator in the act.
The technology today is targeted at applications where there are few people about, for example car parks, service corridors in shopping centres and nighttime events.
The system can be set up to evaluate each camera for up to 14 different problems and these can be varied for different times of the day and night if the operational requirements require it.
The installed price will vary dependent on the number of cameras, what each camera is looking for and how and where the information is going to be delivered.
It is possible however to put a guide price of around £2000 per camera that would include installation and training.
This is of course a 1 off capital cost that compares very favourably to the annual costs for 3rd party CCTV monitoring; without the loss of information due to a service level agreement to monitor a percentage of the cameras at any one moment in time.
With the Smart CCTV system all of the cameras are monitored 24 hours per day, 365 days of the year.
