Silicone vs acrylic discussed

SAS (Europe) offer both acrylic and silicone alternatives for modern construction industry external renders.

Silicone vs Acrylic - What's what? In the modern construction industry external render has become a more varied market place with constant innovation creating a solution for every scenario

The main systems now fall into 4 main categories, sand and cement, insulation systems, one coat through colour renders and thin coat systems, all of which have been used extensively throughout the UK and Europe for a number of years and are provided by SAS Europe.

Each category can be broken down into several sub categories comprising of varying raw materials and systems to provide different solutions and pose different benefits.

An example of one of the main variants in thin coat renders would be a silicone or acrylic resin formula.

Both compositions offer a highly flexible coating to help prevent cracking and no requirement to scrape which increases colour consistency and decreases application time.

There is no risk of lime bloom as there is no cement content and with varying grain sizes you can achieve a wider variety of textures as well as the possibility of making small repairs with very good results.

Silicone thin coats provide the added advantage of extra water resistance which massively reduces the risk of staining as the water is actually repelled from the surface.

Another advantage is the increased coverage so you won't require as much render for the application.

It is for these reasons that SAS have developed two ProRend thin coat systems, Colourtex Uniform and Colourtex Grained, as silicone based products which are available in 12 standard colours.

We also offer both acrylic and silicone alternatives in a larger range of colours within the Strikolith range.
