SATRA extends Notified Body status under the CPD

SATRA has extended its Notified Body status and testing capabilities under the European Construction Products Directive (CPD) (89/106/EEC).

SATRA has extended its Notified Body status and testing capabilities under the European Construction Products Directive (CPD) (89/106/EEC).The CPD is one of the 'New Approach' Directives (European Community laws) to create a single European market by removing technical barriers to trade between member states.Products meeting the essential requirements of the Directive are eligible for CE marking and may be placed on the market anywhere within the European Economic Area (EEA).

The CPD applies to any construction product which is produced for incorporation in a permanent manner in construction works, including both building and civil engineering works.For more than three years SATRA has been notified as a Test House under the CPD for testing aspects of building hardware, thermal insulating products, reflective road studs and ceramic tile adhesives.

Recently SATRA's accreditation was extended by the UK Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and it is now designated as a Product Conformity Certification Body for floorcoverings that need to comply with EN 14041.

This standard covers resilient, laminated and textile floorcoverings and allows them to be CE marked.

Within Europe, these floorcoverings are the subject of regulation on flammability (what is termed reaction to fire).Certification involves checking the production control procedures during manufacture (similar to ISO 9001) and product testing.

SATRA's Notified Body status has also been extended to include the assessment of ceramic tiles for lead and cadmium release, a mandatory requirement for tiles that may come into contact with foods.
