Surge in demand for CE marking of safety footwear

SATRA Technology Centre confirms that its PPE-based testing and certification income has reached an all time high.

Demand for the testing and certification of a wide range of personal protective equipment (PPE) has been steadily growing and in 2008 SATRA achieved an overall growth of 11% in this area.

Notably, 2008 saw a significant growth in European Notified Body safety footwear certification work for SATRA, with the technology centre increasing its CE marking business by over 50% compared to the previous 12 months.

Deputy Chief Executive Austin Simmons commented "Safety footwear testing and certification has always been an important part of our work".

"SATRA is a leading player in the European testing and standards making arena and this increase in business reflects the confidence manufacturers have in using SATRA to test and certify their products and the global recognition of a SATRA EC type examination certificate".

Other product categories achieving considerable growth in 2008 were Fall Protection, Eye Wear and High Visibility.

SATRA's purpose built testing laboratory provides testing for head to toe protection.

By providing testing of most types of safety products and PPE against National, European and International standards SATRA continues to provide customers with support to benefit their brand.
