Protek advancing scaffolding guardrail technology
The use of advanced guardrails is specifically recommended in SG4:05, the official guidance of the NASC, the scaffolders' national body.
The latest Work at Height regulations places great stress on the use of collective protection over individual PPE when erecting scaffolding.
The responsibility for providing a safe working environment is also placed squarely on the shoulders of the site owner or principal contractor.
The use of Advanced Guardrails (meaning that the guardrail is installed before the scaffolder ascends to the level) is specifically recommended in SG4:05, the official guidance of the NASC, the scaffolders' national body.
Safety and Access is a major supplier of health and safety training and consultancy for the access industries, and in association with RS Scaffolding has formed a new company, Safety and Access Products, specifically to market a new Advanced Guardrail system called Protek.
Protek is a unique and cost effective system that a single scaffolder can use to install a permanent double guardrail across a full bay, quickly, efficiently and safely.
Because it is in essence a tool that is used to install a permanent guardrail rather than a cumbersome special structure, training is kept to an absolute minimum, it is easy to understand, robust and adds no extra time to scaffolding erection time.
The scaffolder is protected by a double guardrail at all times when he is on the rig.
A website has been set up www.advanced-guardrail.co.uk which has more information.
Safety and Access Products are presenting Protek at their training centre in Bulwell, Nottingham on Thursday 23rd March.
Scaffolding contractors, distributors, principal contractors, facilities and health and safety managers are all welcome to come along to see Protek in a live demonstration.
Morning and afternoon sessions will be held, lasting approximately an hour each, during which Protek will be demonstrated.
Safety and Access will also give an overview of the Work at Height regulations, bringing visitors up to date on how the legislation affects them.
For more information and to book a free-of-charge place on the open day please contact Safety and Access.
