Air conditioning by Samsung for Brighton offices

Samsung's DVM Plus III (VRF) system has been specified for a six-storey office refurbishment in Brighton, carried out by main contractor, Tangent Projects.

The brief was to allow independent control and metering of each floor of offices, to allow for multiple occupation of the building with ease of management.

This called for a flexible system with the best green and economic credentials, with suitable indoor unit sizes to fit into the voids available.

With 10,000 square feet of commercial space to refurbish over six floors, London-based Tangent Projects and air conditioning installer Semco Building Services, of Basingstoke, collaborated with the building's owner, to specify the Samsung solution for the 1980s concrete framed building.

Semco Building Services undertook the design and installation of the DVM Plus III system.

Six roof-mounted outdoor units of 34kW each serve one of the office floors through six slim ducted indoor units of 5.6kW cooling (6.3kW heating).

Energy efficient Samsung DVM Plus III qualifies for Enhanced Capital Allowance provisions, and comes with a five year guarantee.

Components for the Samsung solution were sourced through Eastleigh based Samsung distributor Freedom Air.

The Samsung system has been integrated with a mechanical ventilation system, that operates on a floor-by-floor basis.

Samsung DVM Plus III offers significant performance benefits over conventional inverter VRF air conditioning systems.

The digital scroll compressor, two stage compression with vapour injection and turbo intercooler at the heart of DVM Plus III ensure energy efficient operation across a wider capacity range than inverter VRF systems - easily down to 10 per cent of capacity, and below.

This technology, combined with advanced design heat exchangers and fans makes for quiet cooling and heating efficiency in a system that also offers industry leading pipe runs, a wide choice of indoor units and a range of easy-to-use control systems.
