Schluter-Systems' newly-appointed Public Relations Manager has taken on a specially-created, unique role within the flooring industry.

Schluter-Systems' newly-appointed Public Relations Manager has taken on a specially-created, unique role within the flooring industry to raise awareness of the generic use of ceramic and stone tiles, and the essential protection required to guarantee their long-term integrity.

Stewart Bint is working closely with industry trade bodies The Tile Association, the Contract Flooring Association, the Stone Federation of Great Britain, and the Resin Flooring Association; along with RIBA, and other construction-related organisations.

"As the world market leader in providing technical solutions for all tiling problems in any type of installation, Schluter is perfectly placed to co-ordinate an on-going tile awareness campaign across all sectors of the construction industry, from tiling and other flooring contractors, through architects and specifiers, to the end-user consumer," says 49-year-old Bint, who has worked in PR since 1986, following a ten-year career as a broadcaster.

His PR and communications expertise is also being offered as a free service to companies working on floor and wall tiling projects.

"While Schluter primarily protects the long-term integrity of tiled installations through movement joints, uncoupling and waterproofing membranes, along with transition strips and edging profile, this new role we're creating, gives companies an opportunity to increase overall tile awareness amongst their target audiences.

"We're doing this on the basis that any increase in the use of tile will benefit the industry in the long-term - and, judging by the number of cases where Schluter is called in to trouble-shoot where tiling installations have gone wrong, there is still a need to educate tilers, flooring contractors, architects and specifiers, in the correct use of essential tiling protection." Schluter is also a firm believer in industry training, already running a range of technical courses.

Bint will be looking to increase the scope of those sessions, while liaising with The Tile Association's Training Committee, and developing links with the Contract Flooring Association's training division -- the Flooring Industry Training Association -- and the Construction Industry Training Board.

Another facet of the new role is to maximise the use of the Internet to raise awareness of tiles and their essential protection.

One of the first projects being undertaken in the new role, is working to relaunch the Midlands Region of the Contract Flooring Association, and Stewart Bint has already become Midlands Regional Chairman.

On all aspects of his new position, he will work closely with Schluter's retained advertising and Public Relations consultancy, Unsworth Sugden Advertising ., in particular with newly-appointed PR executive Royston Brooks-Lewis.
