Waterproofing system protects golf club bathrooms

A Schluter-Systems product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jan 7, 2009

Schluter-Systems has reported that the Schluter-Ditra waterproofing and uncoupling membrane has been installed in the bathrooms of the Bicester Golf and Country Club.

Schluter-Ditra has been installed on the floors in all 54 en-suite bathrooms and the two bridal suite bathrooms.

In addition, Schluter-Kerdi-Drain was used to complete the waterproofing system in four wetrooms used by guests who may have difficulty accessing baths and shower cubicles.

The Schluter waterproofing products - along with movement joint and edge protection profiles - were supplied by Swindon-based Tradsol Wetroom Solutions.

With so much water and moisture always present in bathrooms and wetrooms there is a real danger of it seeping through into the fabric of the building.

If effective waterproofing is not fitted, the tile assembly is likely to fail, water could leak through into the room below, and over time there will be damage to the structure of the building.

As well as Schluter-Ditra, the waterproofing solution from Schluter-Systems used at the Bicester Golf and Country Club, included the Schluter-Kerdi waterproofing mat, the waterproofing corner fitments Schluter-Kerdi-Kereck to produce completely watertight inside and outside corners, and the Schluter-Kerdi-Keba sealing band to create waterproof seals where the waterproofing mats abut each other.

To comply with the terms of Schluter-Systems' waterproof guarantee, the Schluter-Kerdi-Keba was adhered and sealed with the sealant adhesive Schluter-Kerdi-Coll.

Trying to achieve a waterproof seal between the drain in tiled floors and the waterproofing membrane in shower installations has traditionally caused problems.

Schluter-Kerdi-Drain overcomes the long-standing weak point in the construction of surface drain assemblies in tiled floors.

Schluter-Kerdi-Drain's upper assembly incorporates an integrated bonding flange on the top surface, which provides a secure bond between the drain and the waterproofing membranes.

The drain housings come complete with odour traps and the system can connect to both horizontal and vertical pipework.
