Leading trade body for construction in Scotland has announce new Chief Executive.

The leading trade body for construction in Scotland has announced that its new Chief Executive will be Michael Levack, previously Regional Managing Director of Mansell Michael will take up post on 3 October 2005

Commenting on the appointment David Smith, Scottish Building President said, "These are exciting times".

"Michael is taking over the reins at a time when the industry in Scotland is buoyant, with many key issues requiring to be debated and actioned".

"I am confident that under his leadership Scottish Building will make an increasing impact on the industry as a whole".

"He brings significant experience, passion, and vision and I am confident Scottish Building will go from strength to strength under his leadership".

Michael was educated at Kirkcadly High School and Dundee College of Technology (now University of Abertay Dundee) where he gained a BSc in Quantity Surveying before joining Balfour Beatty, where he qualified as a Chartered Surveyor.

He went on to work with another major contractor before spending some time in the specialist sub-contracting sector.

He joined Hall and Tawse in 1995, and was appointed to their Board in 1998.

Throughout his career he has been actively involved with both The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Scottish Building, together with participation in several industry focused groups.

Michael served as President of Scottish Building in 2003-2004.

Michael commented, "Scottish Building has a crucial role to play in the future of the construction industry within Scotland, and with the Scottish Parliament now fully established, the industry must have a coherent message to influence the decisions that will affect not only our members, but the Scottish public".

"Establishing and building strong relationships with other professional and representative bodies throughout Scotland will be a key objective".

"The impact of the services provided by our wide and diverse membership, are at the heart of the Scottish economy, and as such the industry must ensure it is fully engaged with Government, local authorities and clients within both the public and private sectors".

Douglas Fergus, who has held the position of General Manager for the last year, will continue in a key position within Scottish Building.
