This is now the sixth year of the award, which was the concept of James Birnie MBE, and is an annual award for craft excellence within the industry.
It is awarded to the best craft apprentice in Scotland who has shown dedication, talent and initiative, among other skills, throughout their training within the industry.

He was honoured with the MBE in 1999 for his services to working conditions for the industry as a whole.
Entries have been received from employers and colleges and the nominees were presented to a panel of three SBATC Council members who initially interviewed them based on the initial information received on their application forms and then the applicants who were selected for interview then attended an informal interview.
Interviews were held in early September and all the applicants who reached the interview stage are invited to the award ceremony, which this year is in Aberdeen on 24th November.
Each and every apprentice who reaches this stage receives a prize to commemorate their achievement in progressing so far, in what is a tough competition.
Candidates are judged on practical craft ability, theoretical craft ability and other contributory factors towards excellence, such as: organisational skills, communication skills and examples of the individual as a team player.
There can only be one winner and yet the panel has identified tremendous talent in their search for the winner this year.
The big announcement of the winner and the four runners up will take place on 24th November in Aberdeen City Town and County Hall.
