Vocational training in construction trades
Scottish Building discuss with Government the need to increase vocational training in construction trades within Scottish schools.
Scottish Building's Chief Executive Michael Levack was given the chance to discuss first hand with First Minister Jack McConnell, the need to increase vocational training in construction trades within Scottish schools.
The discussions took place at the Scottish Labour Business Forum, chaired by Lord Robertson, with both The First Minister and The Secretary of State for Transport and Secretary of State for Scotland, Douglas Alexander MP, debating a range of issues with representatives of the business community.
The Forum ended a week of discussions on training, apprenticeships and skills within the construction industry for Michael Levack.
The week started with an invitation to participate in the Scottish Funding Council's first business dinner.
The evening was hosted by the Council's Chairman John McClelland CBE, and was attended by a wide range of business representatives with an active interest in the Scottish education system.
It was a great opportunity for the Council's directors and senior staff to discuss funding for teaching and learning, research and other activities, in Scotland's colleges and universities.
The Scottish Building Apprenticeship and Training Council (SBATC) met on Tuesday, where training needs, in particular with regard to apprenticeships, as well as college provision and vocational training were discussed.
SBATC register all construction apprenticeships within Scotland and regulate the terms and conditions of the apprenticeship.
