Amiran, the near-invisible glass from Schott, provides a clear view at Stuttgart's Gottlieb Daimler Stadium

At the World Cup 2006 the twelve host stadia were on the world stage.

For years, they have been undergoing renovation to look their best for this major event.

The Gottfried Daimler Stadium in Stuttgart, with its filigree membrane roof, ranks as one of the largest and most attractive World Cup stadia.

Following remodelling by the renowned architectural group Arat - Siegel and Partner from Stuttgart, up to 56,947 fans could be seated in a stadium that offers a greatly enhanced interior.

The addition of a completely new level to the grandstand ranks among the most important modernisation measures.

In order to provide the highest possible level of service, new seats for reporters, an exclusive business area with an impressive looking lounge and 44 executive boxes were added.

The design of the VIP zone puts emphasis on high-quality materials, containing a lot of glass, steel and concrete to create a prestigious and elegant environment.

In order to achieve an optimal view of the playing field that is almost free of obtrusive light reflections, Ruppert App + Co from Leutkirch, the facade contractors, decided to use Amiran, the near reflection-free glass from Schott.

Insulated glass units consisting of laminated Amiran, low E coated float glass and an additional pane of Amiran were installed in the VIP areas.

Amiran, an optical interference anti-reflective glass that is dip-coated on both sides, offers a residual reflection in insulated units of less than 2%, compared to 15% with normal glass.

This highest possible degree of transparency supports the modern and open character of the entire architectural concept developed by Arat - Siegel and Partner and allows for the boundary between indoors and outdoors to virtually disappear.

Now, spectators experience a great football experience without being distracted by disturbing reflections.
