63 employees from roof tile manufacturer, Sandtoft, are celebrating after achieving an NVQ in Business Improvement Techniques (BIT).

Staff have been training for six months to achieve the qualification which is aimed at boosting business performance and efficiency.

Carole Goodwin, human resources director at Sandtoft said: "Employees from a number of different departments took part in the course, including our maintenance, production staff and general operatives.

"The qualification forms part of a wider initiative to continuously improve and develop the skills of our workforce with other courses planned throughout the year.

In a challenging economic climate, we strongly believe that investing in training will help us to stay ahead of the competition through more motivated staff as well as increased productivity and efficiency".

Simon Thompson, a plant manager at Sandtoft who has achieved the NVQ, commented: "The course was a great opportunity to learn practical skills that are applicable across every kind of business, including effective team working, continuous improvement techniques, workplace organisation and problem solving techniques.

We've already put the training into practice and are beginning to see the results".
