A joint approach to finding a cost effective means of cooling hot, dry atmospheres in factories and warehouses has led to the development of an innovative, new evaporative cooling system.

Launched by Seeley International (Europe), manufacturers of the award winning Breezair Evaporative Cooling Systems, in conjunction with developers, Work Space Cooling, the SDU550, is a state-of-the-art, internally mounted, evaporative cooling system that requires no external building work or complex installations The SDU550 air distribution system provides an easy to use, simple, safe and effective method of cooling industrial buildings

Providing up to 40kW of cooling, the patented system can be installed inside buildings thereby avoiding the need for expensive ductwork and disruptive building work.

Units can be installed in groups, or individually, in order to accommodate differing design options and phased investment.

The uncomplicated technology can be set up and fully operational on site in a matter of hours and can be easily relocated as factory layouts change.

Fully installed for under £5,000 and costing less than 10p per hour to run a single unit, the SDU550 produces airflow of 10,000m3 covering an area of 12m in diameter or a 20m long corridor.

This allows for the effective cooling of large areas or controlled spot cooling in energy intensive industries such as plastic manufacturing.

Evaporative cooling uses the principle of adiabatic cooling to take hot dry air, typically found in factories and commercial buildings, and cools it by up to 150C by passing it over wet filter pads.

Adiabatic air-cooling is a natural process used world wide - it is only now that a system based on this principle has been designed to reflect both the business needs and weather patterns in the UK.

This technology avoids the use of environmentally damaging refrigerants.

Most buildings can support the lightweight units by suspension or bracketing from the existing structure.

All services, including drainage, are run from above so no valuable floor space is used.

High temperatures in work areas are usually linked with low relative humidity causing uncomfortable working conditions and, in some cases, manufacturing problems.

An internal evaporative cooler naturally raises the humidity to a comfortable and stable level whilst avoiding the high humidity associated with other systems.

Costing around 25% of standard air-conditioning and only 10% of the running costs; the SDU550 is the simple answer to resolving the issues of high temperatures in the work place.

The SDU550 is available via Seeley International (Europe), Work Space Cooling or appointed distributors.
