Breezair Cooling And Ventilation system has drastically improved working conditions for the 60 employees working in the bakery.

Excessively high summer temperatures of between 34C and 37C in the Riverside Bakery, Middlesbrough have been reduced by up to 10C following the installation of the Breezair Evaporative Cooling Systems from Seeley International (Europe) Specified by Pidra Environments Ltd, a privately owned company specialising in the design, specification, supply and installation of environmental and thermal comfort control systems, the Breezair system has drastically improved working conditions for the 60 employees working in the bakery

An independent company established 25 years ago, Riverside Bakery specialises in baking morning rolls for around 1,000 customers, which are delivered by the company's fleet of 28 vehicles to a range of catering establishments throughout the North of England.

The main bakery production lines are located within a modern, insulated metal deck construction with the majority of the ovens being positioned along one side of 15,000 sq.

building.

Prior to the installation of the Breezair system, the bakery used general ventilation units and open doors to reduce the overall temperatures.

However this proved ineffectual and resulted in a very stuffy environment with little or no air movement.

Pidra Environments conducted an in depth survey of the bakery to ascertain the best method of improving overall thermal comfort.

The company observed that the high roof collected heat, which was then radiated down, into the interior of the building causing the temperature of the entire space to rise.

At the same time people, the ovens and bakery products were also heating the enclosed air so that the temperatures within the building exceeded the ambient temperature of 21C by between 10deg and 16C, depending on the location of the temperature reading.

Dismissing air conditioning as inappropriate and prohibitively expensive, Pidra Environments suggested the installation of four Breezair Evaporative Cooling Units with an eight-way horizontal discharge head located at some 4.5 metres above the floor, together with two roof mounted, vertical discharge powered extract ventilations, fitted with weathered shutters and ducted to grilles installed in the ceiling.

The total cooled fresh input air ventilation rate provided by the Breezair units was estimated at 43,200m3/hr.

"The Breezair system has reduced working temperatures and has minimised the ingress of dust and other air borne contaminants into the area from outside", says Chris Timney, Bakery Manager.

"The introduction of cooled, clean fresh air has benefited both the bakery and our personnel who are enjoying a more comfortable and healthier working environment.

Interestingly, the lower ambient temperatures have also been responsible for a considerable improvement in the overall quality and freshness of the finished product".

Regarded as the most advanced evaporate cooling technology in the world, the environmentally friendly Breezair allows doors and windows to be kept open while providing a constant flow of naturally cooled air.

The system is economic to install, cost effective to run and consumes less energy than conventional air-conditioning systems.

Far more versatile than standard cooling methods, Breezair is capable of providing sufficient cool air to overflow and prevent hot air entering a building.

As fresh air is continually drawn from outside, then passed over a saturated medium and washed, the potential for "sick building" syndrome from constantly circulating air is avoided.

The Breezair is suitable for both commercial and industrial applications in a spectrum of industries that include agriculture, horticulture, manufacturing, catering and hotels, and public and residential buildings.

Manufactured to the highest standards, the Breezair is backed by Seeley International's 30 years of experience in climate control and the company's commitment to excellence in customer service.
