New multi-tiered mezzanine floor within a 100,000-sq.ft-distribution centre has reduced inside temperatures to a regulatory 22C, even on the hottest day, with the Breezair Evaporative Cooling System.

When CPG Logistics, built a new £1.5 million pound multi-tiered mezzanine floor within it's 100,000-sq.ft-distribution centre in Gosport, it was faced with the dilemma of how to meet MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) regulations on storing pharmaceutical products at between 18C and 26C, when temperatures at the top of the three-storey warehouse were reaching 36C The solution came with the Breezair Evaporative Cooling System, from Seeley International (Europe), which has reduced inside temperatures to a regulatory 22C, even on the hottest day

The UK's leading independent logistics company, CPG Logistics' customer base is grounded in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.

As a holder of an MHRA wholesaler/dealer licence, the company was obliged to adhere to MHRA Regulations which involved finding a solution to the problem of excessive temperatures on the top storeys of the building.

Initially, the company were told that there was no effective cooling system available that would not be prohibitively expensive but then project managers and storage and materials handling equipment providers, Locators, came across the Breezair System.

"There were a number of factors that we had to consider", said Darren Jones, Operations Director at CPG Logistics.

"First and foremost we needed to think about staff welfare on the top mezzanine floors, as we had previously needed to shut down the upper floor when temperatures became intolerably high.

We therefore had to have a system that could bring down temperatures and also provide us with census data that could be downloaded and given to MHRA inspectors to prove that we were abiding to temperature regulations".

The Breezair Evaporative Cooling Systems covers all essential areas within the warehouse complex including the storage and packing environments.

The system has been configured so that the main ducts are directed into the packing areas and then flows down the aisles through vents to cover storage picking areas.

Although only installed on the first and second floors, on hot summer days the Breezair system also flows down to the ground floor to help reduce temperatures there as well.

"We are also able to turn the units on and off at the touch of a finger, which means that staff can have spot cooling if required.

Staff have even turned a unit on for a hour in January when it has become rather humid", continued Darren Jones.

The Breezair's wall-mounted climate control panel has four different control modes.

In Auto mode the system monitors the temperature and personal comfort setting, automatically increasing or decreasing the fan speed to maintain comfort.

The fan speed can be varied manually in Manual mode and the system can be programmed in Timer mode to be switched on and off within a 24 hour period.

Fan mode gives the simple choice of operating the system as a ventilator.

Breezair also meets MHRA regulations regarding dumping stale water.

An automatic drain valve keeps the system clean and is pre-programmed to automatically drain stale water from the reservoir and replace it with fresh.

"The system is working very, very efficiently", concluded Darren Jones.

"As it is single phase it is very economic to run and the bill for water was less than ?300 for the year." The system is housed in a simple, clean, ultra-modern designed plastic casing, specially developed to withstand all weather conditions, the Breezair's state-of-the-art components include an amazing world-patented water distribution system, which delivers continuous, balanced water coverage to all the pads.

The patented system ensures maximum cooling efficiency and minimal maintenance problems.

An innovatively designed, aerodynamic fan provides a constant, even flow of air over the pads to provide a welcome cool breeze with minimal noise and low energy consumption.

Other pioneering components include a highly efficient water pump that guarantees constant and reliable cooling when most needed, and a long lasting variable speed motor that gives maximum comfort level control.

The Breezair is suitable for both commercial and industrial applications in a spectrum of industries.

Manufactured to the highest standards, the Breezair is backed by Seeley International's 30 years of experience in climate control and the company's commitment to excellence in customer service.
