Breezair provides Southern Water with a cost effective solution to office coolin.

Determined to find ways of minimising costs on heating, ventilating and air conditioning, Southern Water, suppliers of water and wastewater treatment services throughout Kent, Hampshire, Sussex and the Isle of Wight, has successfully trialled the Breezair Evaporative Cooling System at its offices in Otterbourne, Hampshire Providing Southern Water with an effective cooling system, at a fraction of the cost of conventional air conditioning, Breezair has also enabled the company to maintain its "green credentials" as it does not emit harmful CFCs into the atmosphere

The 60 square metres of offices in Otterborne were built in the 1950s and in addition to having numerous large glass windows also has poor thermal efficiency.

In summer the company's 23 office workers regularly complained about the hot, stuffy atmosphere and uncomfortably high temperatures.

Looking for a way of overcoming the problem, the company decided to trial the Breezair system.

"The costs of installing, running and maintaining Breezair is forecast at around 80% less than conventional air conditioning", said Geoff Rowley, Facilities Project Manager at Southern Water.

"Everyone is extremely happy with the system which provides cooling in summer and ventilation throughout the rest of the year".

A single Breezair unit has been installed on the roof of the building, which has been ducted to grills in the ceiling.

Extractor fans have been linked into the system controls to ensure that levels of humidity remain comfortable.

"We are very encouraged with the system and have applied for budgets to install other units in other sites throughout our region", concluded Geoff Rowley.

"Breezair is now our system of choice for installing into small to medium air space cooling environments".

In addition to the standard Breezair system, Southern Water has also purchased 30 mobile Breezair units, which it has deployed throughout its sites as an interim measure until it has the funding for permanent systems.

The mobile systems have also worked successfully and received a positive response from staff.

Regarded as the most advanced evaporate cooling technology in the world, the environmentally friendly Breezair allows doors and windows to be kept open while providing a constant flow of naturally cooled air.

The system is economic to install, cost effective to run and consumes less energy than conventional air-conditioning systems.

Far more versatile than standard cooling methods, Breezair is capable of providing sufficient cool air to overflow and prevent hot air entering a building.

As fresh air is continually drawn from outside, then passed over a saturated medium and washed, the potential for "sick building" syndrome from constantly circulating air is avoided.

The Breezair is suitable for both commercial and industrial applications in a spectrum of industries that include agriculture, horticulture, manufacturing, catering and hotels, and public and residential buildings.

Manufactured to the highest standards, the Breezair is backed by Seeley International's 30 years of experience in climate control and the company's commitment to excellence in customer service.

Southern Water is responsible for delivering clear, fresh water to around one million households in the South East of England in addition to treating and recycling dirty water from nearly two million households.

The company has approximately 104 water supply works and has 13,300 km of water mains.

The company has recently announced a £2 billion programme of investments to maintain and improve services over the period 2005 to 2010.
