Martin Baker add more Breezair Cooling Systems

A CoSaf Environments product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 20, 2006

Following the system's success, rtin Baker has fitted Breezair coolers into its Auto Anodising, NDT department and catering unit.

Two years ago, 15 Breezair Evaporative Coolers from Seeley International (Europe) were installed into the factory of ejection seat manufacturer, Martin Baker.

Now, following the system's success, the company has fitted Breezair coolers into its Auto Anodising, NDT department and catering unit.

Installed by specialist air conditioning technology company, Aircon Services, the new Breezair coolers have mirrored the success of the previous installation by reducing temperatures from sweltering summer highs of around 40C to comfortable ambient temperatures of around 23C.

The world's longest established and most experienced manufacturer of ejection seats, Martin-Baker Aircraft Company operates in the UK from its wholly owned 22-acre site at Higher Denham in Buckinghamshire.

The company's main production area is a single story, 61,000 sq.ft building which houses both the machine and fitting shops.

Within this area Martin-Baker employs a workforce of 220 people who are engaged in machinery assembly, sheet metal work, welding and injection moulding.

Aluminium components for the company's ejector seats are anodised in the Auto Anodising Department to protect them against heat, cold, etc Heat generated from the vats of hot water and chemicals caused temperatures nearby to rise to nearly 40C making working conditions extremely uncomfortable.

Utilising an existing scrubber system to remove the hot air, Aircon Services has installed a Breezair cooler, which injects cool air into the area to reduce temperatures to a pleasant working level.

Similarly, the Non Destructive Test (NDT) Department located in a low-level roof building, was experiencing high temperatures of around 30C resulting from heat created from the equipment used to pressure test pipes.

Using the Breezair cooler in tandem with an extraction system in the roof of the building has resulted in a temperature reduction of around 9C.

The Breezair Evaporative Cooling system has also proved successful in Martin Baker's large catering unit, which due to ovens, steamers, etc suffered unbearable summer temperatures that could not be alleviated by the opening of doors and windows due to health and safety regulations.

The installation of a Breezair cooler together with an extractor system has reduced summer temperatures of between 35C and 43C to around 23C.

"When we installed the Breezair system two years ago, the directors remarked on the dramatic change in the temperature in the factory and the improvement in staff morale", says Graham Dumbleton, Site Manager at Martin Baker.

The system is so cost effective that we decided all our staff should benefit and therefore we made the decision to expand it into the remaining areas of the factory." The only company to provide a full range of evaporative air coolers for a cross section of industries and applications, Seeley International's RPX, EA, TBA, ICON and Mobile air coolers incorporate the most advanced evaporate cooling technology in the world.

The systems are economic to install, provide healthier working conditions and consume far less energy than conventional air-conditioning systems.

Far more versatile than standard cooling methods, Breezair is capable of providing sufficient cool air to drive all the hot air out of the building.

As fresh air is continually drawn from outside, then passed over a water-saturated medium, cooled and washed, the potential for "sick building" syndrome from constantly re-circulated stale air is avoided.

The Breezair is suitable for both commercial and industrial applications in a spectrum of industries that include agriculture, horticulture, manufacturing, catering and hotels, and public and residential buildings.

Manufactured to the highest standards, Breezair is backed by Seeley International's 30 years of experience in climate control and the company's commitment to excellence in customer service.
