Two, nine metre long 1060Kw chillers, 26 air handling units, vacuum plant and compressor equipment weighing over 100 tons was recently craned in to the Health and Safety Laboratory's (HSL) new £56.5m PFI development in Buxton.
The two-day lift process was managed by leading UK building services company, SES, who is contracted to provide the £20.25m design and installation of the mechanical, electrical and public health services to the new facility.
The arrival of the equipment marks a key milestone in SES's programmed installation, as work progresses at a pace in both the internal and external plant areas.
Located on the outskirts of Buxton, the new facility will cover a gross internal floor area of approximately 22,000m2.
Consisting of a collection of two and three-storey linked buildings housing several different functions.
The facility has also been designed to follow site typography and is being constructed from local materials.
The new building will house corporate offices, analytical laboratories, contained experimental laboratories and engineering test facilities.
This will assist HSL to maintain it's position at the forefront of research into workplace accidents and work related diseases.
The principal contractor for the development is Shepherd Construction Ltd.
The facility is due to be completed in Spring 2005.
