Stanton Bonna, one of the leading producers of innovative concrete railway products, has launched a new precast concrete access stairway designed for use on railway and roadside embankments.

These highly durable concrete steps with galvanised steel hand rails are supplied in modular 1.65m string units with risers and tie-bars.

Delivered to site on pallets they can be quickly and easily assembled by hand in a single operation without the need for heavy plant or lifting equipment.

Ease of assembly means that, subject to clearance of an embankment's vegetation, the stairway modules can be installed on rough terrain with the minimal amount of preparatory groundwork.

A team of 3 or 4 operatives can typically complete a stairway within one to two working days ensuring significant time and cost savings compared with more traditional methods of access stair construction.

The stairway system is designed for both permanent and temporary installation and can be applied to embankment slopes with a gradient of between 25 and 45 degrees, ensuring compatibility with most embankments.

Safety hand rail kit can be fitted to one or both sides of the steps, if required.

Based in Stanton-by-Dale in Derbyshire, Stanton Bonna's dedicated railway division offers a range of concrete products including sleepers, bearers, drainage channels and cable troughs.

As well as supplying to various light rail systems in several major UK cities, the company's high profile client list includes the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Network Rail, both of which have already successfully used the new access stair product.
