SFS Fasteners Add Polish At Clarks Shoes
Irius roofing fasteners from SFS intec have been integral in the construction of a distribution centre at Clarks Shoes, Somerset.
Additionally, under the SFS intec Security package, all specialist ancillary products and site consumables were supplied, thereby reducing purchasing time and costs with supply chain management from SFS intec.
Keith Froggatt of Kelsey Roofing Industries, the envelope contractor commented, "The SFS fastener and Security' ancillary package definitely saved us time in sourcing and with the on-site installation." The roof has a weather layer of stucco-embossed Corus Kalzip rolled on site to produce 160m long sheets from eaves to eaves, self curved to a 455m radius.
It is an over purlin construction with the liner sheet, insulation layer and vapour control layer fixed to purlins, and Kalzip thermoplastic E-clips at 400mm centres along the roof to secure the weather layer.
The bull-nose eaves detail used SFS irius fasteners with a metallic silver finish.
Designed to reduce thermal bridging the E-clips were fastened with specially developed SDK fasteners from SFS intec designed in partnership with Corus Building Systems.
Dave Cottrell of Corus commented, "SFS intec has a similar ethos to us with regard to quality and customer service and has the capability and desire to work with partners." Together with Corus, SFS intec has developed the SDK as a "smart fastener" which ensures that the quality of the roofing is inherent in the fastener itself, rather than being dependent on the installation." Paroc structural composite panels were used for the wall cladding, made up of 150mm thick compressed mineral wool insulation bonded between galvanised steel skins, with an outer colour of metallic blue.
Fixed to stanchions at 7.5m intervals, the wall panels are self supporting, eliminating the need for conventional sheeting rails.
The panels were fixed directly to the stanchions by 180mm long hex-head stainless steel self-tapping fasteners, leaving a 26mm gap between the panels.
An inverted top hat bar in blue metallic steel was used to cover the gap and hide the panel fixings and this was fastened directly to the stanchions with SFS irius fasteners with blue-coloured domed heads.
