SFS intec Hatches Roof Fasteners At The Incubator

A SFS intec product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Oct 25, 2004

Dundee City Council Architects Department's striking new office development, The Incubator, features 1030 m2 of Kalzip aluminium standing seam pitched roof.

The built up roof construction which includes steel liner over purlins, vapour control layer, insulation and a Kalzip 400 stucco embossed weather sheet, employed SFS intec austenitic stainless steel fasteners.

"Kalzip recommended the SFS SDK fastener peg to fix the ST clips to steel purlins," commented John McGrevey of roofing contractor Grainger Building Services.

"The snap off peg ensures the fasteners are correctly driven and not over driven resulting in a lower pull out performance." "We were happy to use the Kalzip recommendation as this ensured it was fixed correctly to minimise long term problems.

The centrally located building has been designed with excellent energy saving performance features.

The roof insulation is Kalzip's new Plus 35 glass fibre quilt insulation with high thermal performance.

Additional roof features, which are part of the energy conservation design, include 6 Monodraught Sunpipe systems to conduct daylight into the interior and Vitral glazed roof light areas.

Architects: Dundee City Council Architect's Department.

Main contractor: Mansell Construction.

Roofing Contractor: Grainger Building Services Ltd.
