SFS quality chain for Turkington
SFS intec is managing the complete supply chain requirements for fasteners, hinges and consumables by Northern Ireland based Turkington Windows and Conservatories.
SFS intec has been tasked with managing the complete supply chain requirements for fasteners, hinges and consumables by Northern Ireland based Turkington Windows and Conservatories, after the fabricator found rival products were no match for SFS in its recent unsuccessful trials.
Manufacturing around 300 PVCu windows every week at its Portadown factory, Turkington serves customers in the commercial, residential and public sectors throughout Northern Ireland, as well as increasingly in Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
The windows and conservatories division is part of the larger Turkington Group, which also includes Turkington Joinery, Turkington Precast, Turkington Construction and Turkington Holdings.
Turkington has worked with SFS since 1995 and over its 20 years in business it has established a strong reputation for delivering quality windows, doors and conservatories.
Its decision to hand the management of the complete supply chain for fasteners, door hinges and consumables to SFS intec enables it to further focus on the quality of its products and services, whilst at the same time improving profitability.
Under SFS intec's supply chain management, Turkington's team is no longer required to place orders and maintain adequate stocks of C-parts.
Some fabricators have found in the past that despite only accounting for 5% of purchasing spend, C-parts can account for 50% of all products bought - and more worryingly, looking after them can take up to 80% of the purchasing manager's time.
Cary Hindman of Turkington Windows and Conservatories says, "We are renowned for the high quality of our products and establishing this reputation has only been possible by using the right components.
This includes using SFS austenitic stainless steel fasteners and their Estetic 2D door hinge.
But what is also equally important in this increasingly competitive market is maintaining our high level of customer service and profitability as a business - this is where SFS intec's supply chain management service will prove extremely valuable.
Without effective management of the supply chain, even the largest window and door manufacturers will at some point suffer costly delays in terms of lost production time, and may end up having to substitute their approved fasteners and hardware for inferior quality products".
Such problems can seriously jeopardise deliveries, installation schedules and customer guarantees.
"Supply chain management is essentially about the supplier taking full responsibility for ensuring the right component is in the right place at the right time," says SFS intec's Glen Wainwright.
"With our global manufacturing and logistics expertise, fabricators can have every confidence in our ability to make this happen, with efficiency gains often delivering the key benefit of cost reduction or superior quality products at no extra cost".
