In a continuing refurbishment project for 1970s tower blocks in Motherwell, Clydeside, the blocks are being over-roofed with aluminium single skin pitched roofs in profiled sheeting, to provide additional weather protection and drying facilities for the residents The project is designed to provide an economical weatherproofing solution to compensate for the failing flat BUR roof decks on these blocks and, at the same time, provide additional facilities

SFS intec fasteners were used to secure the profiled sheeting to the purlins.

"We used SFS self-drilling self-tapping sheet support fasteners with saddle washers from SFS intec," commented John McGrevey of roofing contractor Grainger Building Services.

"These are austenitic stainless steel fasteners with very high corrosion resistance and the material is compatible with the aluminium sheets".

2250 sq.m of single skin of Plannja P40-95, 0.7mm aluminium profiled roof sheeting is finished on the exterior in Metallic 13 and was specified with an anti-condensation coating on the interior to reduce any nuisance to the residents when drying their laundry.
