SFS intec going, going, gone at BCA.
BCA Supercentre constructed from Corus galvanised steel profile, using SFS intec irius austenitic stainless steel fasteners and ancillaries from the SFS Security package
The new GBP12 million BCA remarketing supercentre, outside Bedford, is the largest UK vehicle auction centre to be built for a decade.
Designed by GHP Architects, the undercover section of the 25 acre supercentre is constructed from Corus galvanised steel profile, using SFS intec irius austenitic stainless steel fasteners and ancillaries from the SFS Security package as recommended by Corus Panels and Profiles for their Platinum Partnership Warranty Scheme.
The BCA supercentre building comprises undercover viewing for over 400 vehicles, two auction halls, concourse and administration block, with a centrally located cafeteria and viewing gallery.
The 9000 m2 of roofing is coated externally and internally with Merlin Grey HPS200, and much of the construction is single skin incorporating large areas of Filon Supersafe Roof Lights to reduce reliance on artificial lighting.
SFS intec's irius austenitic stainless steel fasteners were used to secure the roofing to steel purlins and with their aesthetic colour heads to match the roof colour, ensure a very smooth, uninterrupted finished appearance.
Austenitic steel ensures Maintenance-free performance over the lifetime of the building.
Ancillaries supplied by SFS intec's Security supply chain package included EPDM profile filler closures and 6 X 5 mastic sealer.
Ken Staff, of roofing and cladding contractor Commercial Cladding Services, commented: "We were very happy to use SFS intec's irius fasteners and ancillaries as they ensured compliance with the Corus Platinum Warranty Scheme".
"The Security complete package makes it easy and quick to specify and obtain the correct fasteners and irius fasteners and tools ensure rapid, low waste installation".
In the operational accommodation areas, the roof construction is twin skin, with 200mm of glass fibre insulation over decking, to ensure compliance with L2 of the Building Regulations for energy efficiency.
1500m2 of Corus' Celestia metallic finish coated profile were used for the exterior of the offices and accommodation sections, as the weatherskin to a blockwork construction, with fibreglass insulation.
