New website helps tighten up on air
leakage
Targeting specifiers, roofing contractors and property developers, six key trade bodies are supporting the interactive reference point and discussion forum on airtightness in the building envelope.
An initiative to tackle 'poor industry knowledge' of how to achieve true airtightness in the building envelope and comply with tougher legislation is providing a dedicated website to provide an industry-wide information resource www.airtight-security.co.uk The website is a response to independent research which showed the construction industry was significantly uninformed about the impact of Part L2 regulations on airtightness requirements

SFS irius Goes Celestia
SFS intec's Construction Fasteners division has launched a range of irius-coated fasteners with the exciting Celestia by Corus metallic finishes for maximum aesthetic impact.
The website is in association with the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), the Metal Cladding and Manufacturer's Association (MCRMA), the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, (NFRC), the Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA), the Modern Methods of Construction Alliance, and EPIC - Engineering Panels in Construction.
The website concept is the initiative of fastenings manufacturer SFS intec, who have also become the site's principal sponsor.
"Everyone from specifiers, through contractors to the building's end-users is under increasing pressure to comply with tougher legislative framework".
"But there is still a real lack of knowledge about the pitfalls of air leakage, meaning buildings are still falling short of the new Part L2 requirements, " said Colin Yeates, Sales Director of Construction Fasteners Division at SFS intec.
"We have pushed for this initiative on behalf of the whole industry".
"It is hoped it will significantly increase knowledge and provide an interactive forum where people can source independent information and contact a helpdesk of industry experts, who can respond to on-line enquiries".
The airtight security website provides a wealth of information on achieving compliance through airtightness.
It includes an air testing video demonstration, opportunity to request CPD presentations and best practice case studies.
Visitors can also download data sheets, a designers guide and technical guidance from the MCRMA.
An industry-wide independent UK survey - titled 'Not Just Hot Air?- has highlighted poor levels of awareness and attitudes of specifiers and roofing contractors to the latest Part L2 Building Regulations.
It was conducted in association with industry bodies BSRIA, Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturer's Association (MCRMA) and National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC).
Fully analysed results of the survey are expected to be published later in 2007.
