Scratch card based safety initiative

A Safety Bonus product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 1, 2007

Safety Bonus, a new scratch card based safety initiative, encourages group co-operation and accident prevention.

Safety Bonus is a new scratch card based safety initiative developed to redress the traditional imbalance between productivity and safety by encouraging group co-operation and accident prevention with a strong focus on sustained results.

Employers may issue the scratch cards at their discretion to direct employees, contractors or even visitors for participating in a number of standardised safety events printed on the card such as: making a near miss known, identifying uncontrolled hazards or suggesting a safety improvement.

The action of recognising contribution by presenting this token positively reinforces co-operative behaviour and recording the reason for issue constantly reminds the recipient of their achievement.

Recipients may then scratch off a panel to reveal either 5, 10, 15 or 20 points.

On accumulating either 100, 500 or 1,000 points recipients return their cards to Safety Bonus, using a convenient freepost address, where their new total will be published under their employers name on the Safety Bonus web site.

Publishing individual results provides unconditional reward and gives employers a particularly unique way of demonstrating their commitment to stakeholders on a phenomenal scale.

Socially and commercially no business can afford to rest on its laurels when it comes to safety performance.

Safety Bonus makes motivation and co-operation a more profitable exercise for managers and gives employees something to get excited about.

Ultimately as more employers join in the social benefits to industry may be appreciated in real time.

Revolutionary? It might just be.
