SGB Rovacabin supplies modular building for RAF

A SGB Group product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Mar 9, 2009

SGB Rovacabin, one of the UK's leading suppliers of modular buildings, recently supplied a 115 square metre modular unit to RAF Northolt.

The new facility will be used by the Aeronautical Information Documents Unit as both office accommodation and a briefing area.

The design brief had to take into account a storm drain over which the building was to be situated, measuring over two metres in diameter.

Therefore the unit had to be supported on a series of steel support beams, which spanned between the pad foundations and therefore prevented any loading being imposed on the storm drain.

SGB Rovacabin was selected by Defence Estates to be sole supplier on this project due to their flexible space solutions and vast experience.

The unit was designed to match the aesthetics of the adjoining blocks on the base and the pitched roof, cladding, windows and doors were all specially selected.

Rovacabin provided support and technical expertise from the initial specification and design, through to all external works that included steps, ramps, landscaping, exterior lighting and a glazed link to the adjoining building.

David Moore, Project Manager comments: "SGB Rovacabin were faced with a particular design challenge with regards to the location of the new annex because of the location of the storm drain".

"Due to their technical expertise, the challenge was one that the company was able to overcome effectively".
