Senior's Hybrid Tested to BS7950

A Senior Architectural Systems product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 10, 2009

Senior Architectural Systems continue to develop their Hybrid range of aluminium timber composite windows to meet the needs of their customers and enhanced security is high on the agenda.

Security continues to a great concern in many areas of the UK where burglary is on the increase.

It is claimed that domestic break-ins increased by 4% in the last three months of 2008 - the second successive rise.

As a result the demand for high security products to resist unlawful entry is on the increase in both new-build and refurbishment sectors.

Several Hybrid products have recently been tested to BS 7950:1997 'Specification for enhanced security performance of casement and tilt/turn windows in domestic applications' and passed.

Senior's now claim that their Hybrid tilt/turn window and their Hybrid flush casement system are compliant with the standard.

During the test the windows were subject to a manipulation test where implements such as steel wires, paint scrapers, craft knives, joiners bolsters, wood chisels and screwdrivers were used to try and disengage the locking mechanism.

During the manual check test, nail bars and flat bladed screwdrivers were used to try to break through hinges, locking and fixing points, again with no successful entry.

Together with attempted removal of the glazing and placing specific point loads on the window assembly the Hybrid window withstood attack.

Composite systems are sometimes viewed as being move vulnerable due to their composite structure, UK designed Hybrid proves that with a good solid design and coupling system between the aluminium and wood high levels of security are possible.

The complete range of Hybrid aluminium timber composite windows, doors and curtain wall systems are available in stock in the UK and can be fabricated with the minimum of investment in new machinery.
