Industry 'Oscar' for Brian Newell of
Shackerley
Brian Newell, founder and chairman of Shackerley (Holdings) Group has been awarded a business 'Oscar' for 'outstanding individual achievement'.
Mr Newell is an internationally renowned technical expert in the design, specification, manufacture and installation of ceramic wall and floor tiles His accolade was awarded by The Tile Association (TTA), the highly regarded trade body which brings together tile manufacturers, distributors, retailers and contractors from across the UK

The TTA exerts significant influence at a national, European and International level in the development of the British Standards, European Norms and ISO Standards that underpin the industry.
The 'outstanding individual achievement' award was made in recognition of Mr Newell's continuous (and ongoing) unpaid work over a thirty-year period, serving on the numerous UK and overseas committees that set those standards.
It also recognises the steadfast way in which he has served the TTA since he helped to found the organisation eight years ago, bringing together the different factions of the industry to speak with one voice.

The company is also the country's largest distributor of glass blocks into the DIY and architectural sectors of the market.
In the flooring industry, where Shackerley's origins lie, the company is renowned for its architectural, design-led and specialist ranges of ceramic tiles, glass blocks and paviours, ancillary fixing products and Sentinel heavy duty entrance matting.
Shackerley has earned two Queen's Awards for Industry in recent years, both of which related to the successful design, development and marketing of construction systems which Mr Newell personally invented and patented On receiving his award Brian Newell said: "I'm passionate about my work at Shackerley and I'm equally passionate about my work for the TTA and Standards Committees".
