Schneider Electric has introduced a new range of power meters, the PM700 series, to provide users with all of the basic measurement capabilities needed for monitoring an electrical installation.
The PM800 can be used for revenue calculations and allocates costs accurately to various areas within a building, whether part of the administration or production areas.
This allows electricity costs to be calculated, and forecast, more accurately than relying on the usual method of allocating electricity costs based purely on an arbitrary measure, such as the floor size.
Used in this way, the PM800 enables managers to take effective steps to manage their department's energy consumption and to identify areas of particular concern.
The more advanced models in the series are fitted with extensive on-board memory allowing data logging of up to 96 parameters.
Logging data is important since it provides an historical picture of the circuit, identifies peak usage and determines longer-term trends.
Every model comes with a 2 wire Modbus communication module as standard that uses an open protocol making it easy to integrate into Building Automation and SCADA systems.
This allows equipment to be read remotely and avoids the costs, and possible errors, associated with checking meters individually.
The compact - 96 x 96 x 70 mm deep - unit features a large, easy-to-read display allowing all three electrical phases and neutral to be shown simultaneously.
The PM800 has an intuitive menu-driven interface, accessed through four buttons, allowing users access to additional information, such as system snapshots.
A back light makes it easy to read the unit in extreme lighting conditions and from a wide range of viewing angles.
To further help users, the anti-glare and scratch resistant display has large digits ensuring accurate readings.
The PM800 series comprises three versions, each of which has an integrated display.
All models have a sampling speed of 128 samples/cycle and operates at between 90V and 457 VAC or at 100 to 300 VDC.
The PM800 can be used in many applications, including panel instrumentation, sub-metering and cost allocation.
Remote monitoring of electrical installations can easily be achieved by integrating the PM800 with other PowerLogic devices using RS 485 Modbus communications.
