Shrewsbury College was commended by assessors from the Learning and Skills Council for its success rate with level three students and for its Apprenticeship completions at level three.

After a 12-month assessment Shrewsbury College's Centre of Vocational Excellence in Construction has been granted full CoVE status.

The College was particularly commended by the assessors from the Learning and Skills Council for its success rate with level three students and for its Apprenticeship completions at level three.

The assessors also highlighted the College's strong growth in level three provision and its above-target provision in most other areas of Construction; its good collaboration with different types of organisations, such as private providers; and its ability to work in partnership with others in bid writing and sharing good practice.

"It was a tough assessment lasting a year, and we are now very pleased to announce that the CoVE has progressed from interim status to full CoVE status," said project manager Mac Sandal.

"We have a key role to play in producing more skilled Construction workers in Shropshire".

"Courses have already started and we are looking forward to a very busy future".

"Obtaining full CoVE status is totally due to the hard work and commitment of all the staff involved in delivering our Construction courses and training and we intend to maintain the high standards achieved, both in Shrewsbury and at the new Telford Construction Centre".

Gaining CoVE status will bring Shrewsbury College £400,000 over three years.

The College took a decision to site the new centre on Stafford Park because Telford is closer to the West Midlands urban conurbation and more centrally placed to serve Shropshire itself.
