Police turn to Siel UPS to safeguard power supply

UPS specialist Siel UPS has supplied power backup systems for the new Gloucestershire Police headquarters.

UPS specialist Siel UPS has supplied power backup systems for the new Gloucestershire Police headquarters at Waterwells Business Park, Quedgeley, Gloucester.

The UPS installation is the first contract Siel UPS Systems has won with Gloucestershire Police.

It was supplied through main electrical contractors Mitie Engineering.

Siel UPS has also been contracted to maintain the system.

The system consists of two 200 kVA Safepower Evo 3-phase UPS systems, configured for parallel operation for redundancy (n+1) and providing 'high nines' availability of supply to critical IT and communications systems.

Very limited space was available within the plant room at the Gloucestershire facility to accommodate the equipment.

This was no problem for the Safepower Evo installation as it is extremely compact, with a footprint of less than 1m2 per module.

Parallel operation is based on SIEL's decentralised parallel architecture (DPA), which provides high levels of fault tolerance within the system, including redundant bypasses.

The UPS topology is 'true on line, double conversion' which provides the critical load with a high-quality sinusoidal voltage having less than 2% THD, which is closely regulated to exacting tolerances under all load conditions.

Each UPS is connected to BS6290 specification valve-regulated lead acid batteries composed of parallel strings, providing an autonomy of 30 minutes.

Individual string isolation facilitates safe maintenance and battery service.

The systems have also been supplied with external manual maintenance bypass systems, including individual UPS output distribution and isolation devices.
