Coastguard Station All Dry And Ship Shape

A Sika product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Apr 1, 2004

Sika-1 Waterproofing System, one of the specialist products from Sika Limited for above and below ground waterproofing, was recently used in the refurbishment of The Bexhill-on-Sea coastguard station.

The location of the coastguard building meant it was very exposed to adverse weather and driving rain.

This caused water ingress through the external walls of the buildings structure, resulting in fungal decay and dampness on the inside.

The solution from the Sika team was to apply internally and externally 3 coat Sika-1 Waterproofing System which consists of a specialist liquid admixture and pre-bagged quality controlled mortars.

The existing external flat surface was maintained to the full 2 storey height with the base finished with a 'bell drip' and the section below was Sika rendered.

Sika-1 Waterproofing System was specified because of its durability, its environmentally friendliness and because it has a 90 year track record in waterproofing all forms of building structures both internally and externally.
