Sika Coatings Just The Ticket
Sika coating systems were recently used in the refurbishment of the 25 stand Huddersfield Bus Station.
The pre-cast concrete parapets of the multi-story car park, which is situated above the Bus Station, had deteriorated badly, caused mainly by carbonation and penetration of chlorides.
A solution was required to arrest the damage and protect against future attack from the elements.
Following initial tests, Kirklees Metropolitan Borough specified SikaTop Seal 107, a two component, cementitious waterproof coating.
1,000 square metres of 107 were applied by specialist contractors, Lingard Limited.
SikaTop Seal 107 is a BBA approved protective mortar that waterproofs and protects against the effects of road salts and freeze-thaw conditions.
It seals cracks and fills pore/blowholes in concrete structures.
Supplied as pre-measured components, it is easy to mix and can be hand or spray applied.
It can be safely used in drinking water situations.
The improved appearance of the parapets was completed with two coats of SikaGard 680S anti-carbonation, decorative protective coating.
Designed specially for building facades and car parks, SikaGard 680S protects against water, frosts, salts, carbonation and UV degradation.
It has BBA approval, is vapour permeable, and available in a full range of colours.
Huddersfield Bus Station Car Park has not only benefited aesthetically, but will remain in good shape for many years to next maintenance.
