New abattoir floors stand up to steam
cleaning
Specification for two recently completed new abattoir construction projects included the Sikafloor Purcem system.
Abattoirs, where food processing begins, set the standards for hygiene throughout the industry Frequent steam cleaning of floor areas is one of the essential operations within the cleanliness regimes, therefore the ability of the floor surface to withstand the high temperatures associated with frequent steam cleaning is critical

In the latest of many examples within the food processing industry, the specification for two recently completed new abattoir construction projects included the Sikafloor Purcem system.
This flooring system is particularly suited to meet the exacting hygiene demands within the food processing industry and was installed at the new Hendersons Abattoir in Linlithgow, Scotland.
Here the specification required a floor surface able to withstand steam cleaning and exposure to blood acids in a continually wet environment.
A similarly demanding specification was met at the abattoir for Laverstock Park Produce in Hampshire where specialist contractors Protective Coating Systems (UK) of Chippenham, installed Purcem 20 as the surface for the 1200sq.m.
concrete floor slab.
Purcem 20 is a water-based, coloured, polyurethane resin floor screed system.
This creates a jointless surface that, as well as showing no ill-effects of daily steam cleaning, is slip resistant, highly resistant to chemicals and the abrasion and mechanical wear encountered where there are continuous mechanical movements, such as forklift trucks, over the floor surface.
Protective Coating Systems also rendered all the walls inside and out with Sika MonoTop 620 pore sealer.
The outside walls were given a further protective coating of SikaGard ElastoColor.
