Sika at the Building Centre
Damp and unused brick arches in the basement area of the Building Centre in London have been transformed into modern, bright toilets thanks to Sika's waterproofing systems.
The aim of the Buddleia is to develop sustainable responses to discrimination and inequality and provide an infrastructure that will better enable people to contribute to and benefit from the wider employment and social opportunities available in Liverpool.
Specialist contractors Quickseal installed over 4,000 square metres of BBA certified Sika-1 Waterproofing System in the basement areas of the buildings, together with the SikaDur Combiflex jointing system to ensure a totally dry environment.
The Sika -1 system is a pre-bagged structural rendering system suitable for tanking the majority of basements, and can be applied in a two, three or four coat system, depending on the water retaining demands and application required.
Joints were sealed using SikaDur -Combiflex high performance joint sealing system.
This system consists of Combiflex Hypalon strip, bonded with SikaDur epoxy high strength adhesive.
Its versatility makes it ideal for large expansion joints or cracks and is capable of resisting high levels of chemical exposure.
With project completion planned for 2007, the Buddleia Project will give unique support to the 800-year-old birthday celebrations of the city in 2007.
It will also enable BME communities to achieve a positive profile in Liverpool's celebrations in 2008, when the city celebrates its role as 'European City of Culture'.
The Buddleia Project will create over 200 jobs, 850 training opportunities and 50 volunteer placements, bringing nearly 150,000 sq ft of heritage floor space back into use and capacity building over 40 voluntary and community sector organisations.
The redevelopment will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the Independent District of Liverpool City Centre.
