Phase one of a major GBP4 million project by Mackenzie Construction to repair the deck, replace parapets, safety barriers and fit new lighting columns has recently been completed on White Cart Viaduct, the elevated section of the M8 motorway adjacent to Glasgow Airport.

Sika rapid repair systems were chosen to replace the deteriorated concrete on the deck and upstands, caused by ingress of water and salts.

With 80,000 vehicles a day using the bridge, which was opened in 1968, it was important to Glasgow City Council to keep disruption to a minimum.

To speed up deck repairs, SikaSet 45 rapid repair mortar was selected by Mackenzie Construction, design and build contractors on the project.

SikaSet 45 is very rapid hardening, is resistant to freeze/thaw, obtains high early strength and is easy to apply.

This structural repair mortar is ideal for bridge decks and highway overlay and repairs.

Patch repairs on the upstands were completed using SikaDur 41 epoxy repair mortar, which is solvent free and is available in both normal and rapid grades where speed is essential.

It has excellent bond to most construction materials with good chemical resistance, negligible shrinkage, and will cure in damp and wet conditions.

The White Cart Viaduct, which carries traffic over White Cart Water, Glasgow Airport access road and local business situated below, has now been updated to comply with modern safety standards and requirements.
