Sika Waterproofs the Novas Group Buddleia Project
Sika's Waterproofing Systems are being used to waterproof the basement areas of the Buddleia Project in Liverpool.
It provides a vital link between products, technology and design, and welcomes more than 100,000 visitors a year.
The brick arches that support the pavement adjacent to the centre had suffered from sustained water ingress leaking from above over a long period of time.
The centre was looking to make use of these arches, and turn them into additional toilets to service the conference rooms situated on the lower level.
After consultation with Sika Limited, Sika -1 pre-bagged tanking system was chosen to fully waterproof the area, and Quickseal Specialist contractors were appointed to carry out the work.
The BBA certified Sika -1 pre-bagged system is a structural rendering system suitable for tanking all basements, and can be applied in a two, three or four coat system, depending on the water retaining qualities and application required.
It is suitable for internal or external application, and forms an effective barrier against water transmission.
Prior to waterproofing, the worse areas of erosion were made good using SikaCem 133 Gunite.
This is a one-part dry-spray system that can be applied both vertically and overhead, and has rapid strength gain with low shrinkage, making it ideal for a variety of structural repair situations.
It can be profiled and trowelled to a high standard of finish.
A ladies and gents toilet facility have now been completed, providing a successful addition, in keeping with this unique and busy centre.
